Dictatorship is when a country is governed by a dictator. There are very few other sources of political power. Often that person is in charge because they overthrew the previous government, but people can be elected to office and then become dictators. Dictators have absolute power, often backed by the military, over the entire country and its people. Quite often, as a way to secure their power and have more control, dictators remove certain rights from people, most of the time trespassing certain human rights. Usually dictators rise to power as a result from democratic elections, but once they’re elected, they change the entire political system to ensure that no one else will remove them from their charge, starting with prohibiting all sorts of opposing organizations or parties, until they eventually cancel free elections or they do held elections but start tampering the results so it appears that it’s the people’s will to remain in power.
